Additional ways to observe a Holy Lent: 2019 Lenten Learning and Discipline Opportunities

uto_mission_mark_0Please join with the rest of your EMWC friends in supporting the United Thank Offering (UTO) this Lent with the 2019 Lenten Devotional Calendar. Pick up materials near the entryway, including your own iconic Blue Box. By participating, you will learn more about this beloved ministry of the Episcopal Church, practice the spiritual discipline of gratitude, and benefit ministries of hope and faith all over the world. A great activity for disciples of all ages! Collections are due back on Easter Sunday (April 21).

wollentcir_0Wednesdays in Lent will include a study program at 7 PM in Warren beginning March 13th. Each week during Lent, The Episcopal Mission of Warren County is offering, Practicing the Way of Love, at 7 PM at our Warren location. This opportunity is part of our traditional understanding of Lent being a time for special devotion and study in our faith lives.

The Way of Love is a way of life. More than a program or curriculum, it is an intentional commitment to a set of practices. It’s a commitment to follow Jesus: Turn, Learn, Pray, Worship, Bless, Go, Rest.  For more information on the Way of Love and a video presentation by our Presiding Bishop, The Rt. Rev. Michael Curry go to https://www.episcopalchurch.org/way-of-love.

Single Use PlasticEMWC Single Use Plastic Challenge – Each year we individually decide how we will fast during Lent, maybe giving up a food or drink, Facebook, or something else that may help us focus more on our spiritual lives. This year we are introducing a congregational fast, a fast from single use plastic, which is choking our earth and, in some cases, killing animals who become entangled in it or eat it. For example, numerous whales have been found dead, their stomach’s full of plastic.

Please prayerfully consider giving up one or more types of single use plastic: bags, straws, water and soda bottles, cups, coffee stirrers, eating utensils, food packaging, etc. We will provide a few helpful incentives: reusable metal straws, reusable shopping bags, reusable water bottles.
